Supported formats in detail

Input, common image formats

HEIC The standard format of the iPhone since 2017. Saves space but many programs cannot open it.
HEIF The same technique as HEIC with a different extension. Newer Android devices use it as well.
AVIF A modern format for the web, very small. Older programs cannot read it.
JPG, JPEG The most widely used image format. Opened by practically every device and service.
PNG Lossless and with transparency. Suitable for screenshots, logos and graphics with text.
WEBP A format from Google, common on websites. Rejected by some older programs.
TIFF, TIF A format from printing and archiving, also used by scanners. The files are large.
GIF The oldest of these formats, limited to 256 colours. Animations are taken from the first frame.
BMP An uncompressed format from the Windows world. Very large files with no advantage in quality.
